Societies of mind in virtual reality

Assume that we do live in a virtual reality, as Nick Bostrom suggests:

Also assume Marvin Minsky's theory that a person is a Society of Mind.

Thinking about possible ways to implement a reality containing persons as societies of mind and assuming limited computational resources, it seems quite likely that the societies of mind of different people would share a lot of common mental processes, and that the overlap is higher between people, who interact a lot or share common history.

Among other things, this would shed some light onto mysterious instances of synchronicity -- interaction via shared subprocesses would be one of the possible reasons.

:-) which is why I suspect that a "material" interaction is involved in those synchronizations, and I am actually looking for a possible carrier :-)

especially, given that people generally still check e-mail at their own pace, which depends on various off-line and on-line context for each of them (and the mutual knowledge of this context is very limited).. it is possible that their mutual models of each other are so well synchronized, that this effect takes place even without a "nudge", but then more should be said about the nature of this synchronization..

also other cases of synch include, for example, frequent reports of feeling grave emergencies happening to someone's overseas close relatives.. it's difficult to explain without interaction..

well, i did not exclude nothing "material" ! i pointed that (all right, some instances of) synchronicity could be explained differently and, i think, simplier.

then again, "butterfly effect" can explain lots of it simplier. since you, even your thoughts affect enviroment around you and affected by enviroment (in unmeaserable way - i mean we do not know how to measure it, cause every significant step is too small) we may look at world as all connecting network where clots of nodes represent small physical entities etc. somewhat 'wolfram-like'.

but if we go to "generally unexplained", let us also include situations when you "feel somebody is watching you, turn around and bingo". btw, yesterday friend of mine shared some amasing stories about prophetic dreams, hard to discard the evidence.

Indeed..
